We are looking for an experienced house and dog sitter to care for our two small, female, recently rescued maltese/chihuahua dogs. The older (10 years) is blind and has mobility issues, though has proven to be quite remarkable at navigating her way around a new environment. The younger (8 years) is quite anxious but very friendly and needs lots of reassurance that she is not going to be abandonded. We have, as of today (15/4/24), only had them with us for 6 days and it's amazing how far they've come in that short time. We spend a great deal of time and effort in toilet training them, training them to respond positively to us and loving them so they feel safe. We are looking for someone who is willing to be at home almost all of the time with them and is very patient, can take them on walks (the older in a pram with a bit of a play along the way) and the younger who is only now learning to walk on a lead. We expect them to be more settled and to have learned their routine by the time we are heading off to our son's wedding in Scotland.
We live in the heart of Newcastle in a large, 7th floor apartment with great views. There is a small supermarket across the road. Ideally, the right person could give some time to meet with us and the doggies regularly, in the weeks/month prior to our departure, so they are recognisable as a trusted and friendly substitute for us. We would also prefer that there were no visitors coming and going.
I know this is quite a big ask and I hope there is someone who fits the bill who can see their way to allowing us to get away.
